How to Install Opera on a Pocket PC

Nowadays many people utilize a pocket PC for business and personal needs alike. Installing Opera on your pocket PC so you can browse the Internet and access your email is a snap. Once you install the Opera Web browser on your Pocket PC, you'll have no problem accomplishing multiple daily tasks.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Find the Download Link for Opera

  1. Step 1

    Visit the main Opera Web page (see Resources below) and click on the 'Products' link along the top of the menu bar. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on the 'Opera for Mobile' option.

  2. Step 2

    Scroll down the page to the Opera mobile section. Click on the 'Windows Mobile, Pocket PC' link.

  3. Step 3

    Pick the appropriate link for your situation, either the 'Windows Mobile 5.0' or the 'Windows Mobile 2003' download link. Then click on the desired link to begin the install process.

  4. Download Opera to Your Pocket PC

  5. Step 1

    Upload Opera by connecting your Pocket PC to your computer and then opening the ActiveSync program.

  6. Step 2

    Open the .msi file on your computer and install Opera onto your Pocket PC by following the simple install instructions.

  7. Step 3

    Browse the Web using Opera on your phone just as you would on your PC, complete with tabbed browsing, bookmarks, and simple navigation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ensure you have a computer with the minimum system requirements before downloading Opera. Mac users need at least OS X Jaguar (10.2) or higher and Linux users must have the Standard C++ Library and an X11R6.3+ implementation. Those running Windows need 20 MB of free disk space and Windows 95 or higher.
  • Feel safe and secure using Opera to surf the Internet due to the many security features built into the software. One useful feature allows you to see the security level of a Web site while you're surfing.
  • Build your knowledge of Opera by visiting their Web site for tutorials and articles (see Resources below).
  • Understand that this tutorial was written with version 9.10 of Opera in mind. Other previous versions will likely not work with these steps.
