How to Manage Passwords With Internet Explorer

When you spend a lot of time on the Internet, it is inevitable that you will join Web sites that require passwords to access them on future visits. The more time you spend online, the easier it becomes to accumulate an impressive number of passwords! The more passwords you have, the harder it becomes to remember them all. You may try writing them down on a piece of paper you keep handy, but this isn't a secure way to deal store your passwords. With Internet Explorer, however, it is easy to manage even a large number of passwords and never have to worry about forgetting them again.

Manage Your Passwords Effectively

1. Access Internet Explorer from your computer's 'Start' menu.
2. Find the 'Tools' heading on the tool bar at the top of the browser window.
3. Click on 'Tools,' then select 'Internet Options.'
4. Hit the 'Content' tab.
5. Locate the 'AutoComplete' heading and click the 'Settings' button.
6. Decide what you want AutoComplete to do. You can ask it to automatically fill in password information on Web sites and to ask you if you want it to save a password when you enter it for the first time. You can also request that it fill in information in the address field of your browser. Simply put a check in the boxes beside your choices.
7. Click 'OK' when you are done. Now Internet Explorer will be able to help you remember your passwords when you need them.

Tips & Warnings

• You need an ample supply of memory on your computer in order to run Internet Explorer. It takes 64 MB of memory at a minimum to make the program work. Make sure your computer has enough.
• The Internet can be a tricky place for children. There are all kinds of Web sites out there that may not be suitable for them to see. Internet Explorer has taken this into account with its content management feature. With this feature, you can set Internet Explorer to block certain kinds of Web sites, according to your own specifications. You can change your settings at will to adjust the types of Web sites allowed as your children get older.
• These instructions were designed with Internet Explorer 7.0 in mind. If you have a different version of the browser, these steps may not work for you.
