How to Send A Friend Request On Facebook

When browsing your networks on Facebook, you will no doubt come across a few of your friends. Once you find them, you can send them a friend request to add them to your profile's "My Friends" page. As friends, you can tag each other's photos and share your latest news.

    • Computer with Internet access
    1. Send a Friend Request

      • 1

Sign on to Facebook with your registered email address and password (see Resources below).

      • 2

Find friends by clicking on the "Search" link. You can look up old classmates and coworkers (even if you aren't on the network). Of course, you can always search by name or use advanced search to hunt someone down with almost any criteria you can imagine. Visit the Help section for advanced methods of searching (see Resources below).

      • 3

Click the "Add to Friends" link to send a friend request. If you aren't sure the person remembers you, be sure to send a short message before you send the friend request.

      • 4

Wait for your friend to confirm your request. When the friend accepts your request, you will be able to view her entire profile (or at least what they want you to see of it).

      Check the Details

      • 1

See what your friend said about you. When your friend receives the request, he will be asked to fill in the details on how you know each other. You will be prompted to confirm the details when you log in.

      • 2

Confirm or edit the details your friend provided. You can also add your own comments on how things went down. Just click the "Confirm Details" button when you are done.

      • 3

Check out the "My Friends" page to see your social timeline, which pulls information from the details your friend provided.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If your friend denied your friend request, try sending a message instead of simply trying to add them again.

    • Facebook can automatically pull names from your address book to send multiple friend requests at the same time. Each friend will receive the same request as if you added him or her manually.

    • If you do not want to receive friend requests from complete strangers, you should change your privacy settings to allow only certain networks to find you in search results.

    • If your friend denies your request, you will not be given any notice.
