    Join a Regional Network

  1. Step 1

Register for Facebook, or sign in with your email and password if you've already registered (see Resources below). New users will be asked to join at least one network. You may do this when you sign up or wait until later.

  2. Step 2

Head to the "My Accounts" page by following the simple link. Select the "Networks" tab. You will see a list of your current networks, if any, and forms to join new networks. New users will find these same forms on their home page when they log in.

  3. Step 3

Enter your city and state into the form field. Most cities will auto-complete as you type your entry.

  4. Step 4

Choose the regional network you wish to join by selecting the radio button. For some cities, you will have the choice of regions that may overlap your city.

  5. Step 5

Click the "Join Regional Network" button. You will be asked to confirm your choice.

  6. Set Your Privacy Levels

  7. Step 1

Log in to Facebook and head to "My Privacy" using the link on the menu (see Resources below).

  8. Step 2

Click on the "Edit Settings" link next to the area you want to make more or less public. You can choose different levels of privacy for each network.

  9. Step 3

Set up a Limited Profile by choosing the "Edit Setting" link. The Limited Profile Settings page allows you to select what items will appear on your profile.

  10. Step 4

Add the friends or networks who may only see your limited profile. This is great if you only want your closest friends to see your photos or other portion of your profile. This is also an excellent tool to utilize when adding new friends you meet on your regional network.

Tips & Warnings
  • In most major cities, you can choose from at least two regional networks. Choose the network where you spend most of your social time.
  • Visit the Help section, which has a thorough FAQ, if you need help joining a regional network or setting your privacy levels (see Resources below).
  • You can only change your regional network twice every 60 days.
  • Joining a regional network will open your profile up to more people, mostly strangers. Expect more friends requests than you receive on your work or school network, but beware of giving out any personal or sensitive information or posting any on your profile page.
