On Facebook, you can broaden your circle of friends by adding a college network to connect with students and alumni of your college. Every time you join a new network, you have the ability to find old friends and network through new people who already have something in common with you. Connect with old friends after a simple authentication process.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Facebook account
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Student or alumni email

    Join a College Network

  1. Step 1

Sign in to Facebook using your email address and password (see Resources below). If you registered with your school address, you must follow the directions provided to authenticate your college network choice.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "My Accounts" link and choose the "Networks" tab. You should see a list of networks you already belong to on this page. If you are a new user, you will be able to sign up for new networks from your home page, so you can skip this step.

  3. Step 3

Fill in the college network form with a valid email address. You may use a student or alumni address from an approved school (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Check your email. A confirmation email should arrive with directions on how to authenticate your college email address. Follow the link in the email to officially join your college's network.

  5. Step 5

Log back in to Facebook to start browsing your newly added college network. You may also want to consider changing how your old college buddies view your profile. You can set different privacy settings for each network you join. See the help section for more information on privacy levels (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have an email address from your college, check out the university's Web site. Alumni can register for an email address quickly and easily with most schools.
  • Recent transfers and graduates can be affiliated with up to two college networks.
  • Don't worry about complete strangers seeing your profile. Only your friends can see anything more than your name, network and profile photo. With that in mind, be careful whom you accept as your friend.
  • With the addition of a regional network, Facebook is open to anyone with an email address. If you do not want to be as open outside your college network, then set up a limited profile.
