How to Create And Respond To LinkedIn Invitations

Creating and sending invitations is a simple way to be proactive in expanding your LinkedIn network. You can quickly respond to invitations that are of real interest to you. In addition, you can create new connections by sending invitations to the contacts of your existing contacts. LinkedIn is a useful tool for your business, and you can easily take advantage of what the network has to offer.

Things You'll Need:

  • Names of people you intend to invite
  • Computer with Internet access
  • LinkedIn account

    Get LinkedIn Invitations

  1. Step 1

    Log on to your LinkedIn Web site and begin from your home page (see Resources below). If you are not a member of LinkedIn, simply start an account by clicking on the "Join Now" button.

  2. Step 2

    Locate the site map, which contains a variety of fields to help you navigate through your LinkedIn account.

  3. Step 3

    Find the "Inbox" category and click on the "Invitations" link.

  4. Step 4

    Place your cursor over the "Send Message" button.

  5. Step 5

    See the link for "Send invitation" in the drop-down menu and click on it.

  6. Build Your Network From the Ground Up

  7. Step 1

    Choose from the 3 categories: Fast, Faster, or Fastest.

  8. Step 2

    Start by selecting the "Fast" link. In this way, you can begin to build the foundation of your network.

  9. Step 3

    Invite your top contacts. You will only need their names and their email addresses.

  10. Step 4

    Fill in each box provided for you with the first and last name and the email address of the person you are inviting to join your network.

  11. Step 5

    Review your information by pressing the "Edit/Preview Invitation Text" button.

  12. Step 6

    Finalize your invitation by clicking the "Send Invitation(s)" button.

  13. Respond to Invitations

  14. Step 1

    Visit your inbox. You can locate the inbox by accessing your site map.

  15. Step 2

    Find the section titled "Invitations."

  16. Step 3

    View the number of "Received" invitations.

  17. Step 4

    Click on the "Received" link in case you have pending invitations.

  18. Step 5

    Respond to those invitations you would like to accept and continue expanding your network.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may also use the "Quick Invite" button as an alternate way to send a quick invitation to a specific person. To create a quick invitation, you will need the person's first and last name and his or her email address.
  • Create passwords that are difficult to guess. This will help you keep your account and its information private and protected.
