Drifting is not legal on city streets, but for racecar drivers, it is an invaluable skill. If you are looking to hone this racing skill, read on for easy steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a car
  • A car with a manual transmission and rear wheel drive
  • An abandoned area to practice in
  1. Step 1

    Check to be sure that the area you are in is clear of traffic and pedestrians.

  2. Step 2

    Accelerate your manual transmission car and shift into second gear.

  3. Step 3

    Push in the clutch and rev the engine.

  4. Step 4

    Flick the steering wheel to the outside of the turn and steer strongly toward the inside of the turn.

  5. Step 5

    Simultaneously release the clutch.

  6. Step 6

    Immediately steer your car in the direction of the slide.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice with your own car to get a feel for it. Other cars may react differently.
  • Never, ever perform this maneuver on the road. It is dangerous and illegal.

on 4/9/2007 This guide is mostly right but it failed to mention the most important techique in drifiting, heel and toe, which make people wonder how on Earth you can switch between clutch, break and gas paddle in split of second.
