How to Play Chez Geek

Chez Geek is a unique type of card game that appeals to gamers everywhere! The idea is that you and the other players are all roomies in the great house that is Chez Geek, and you are all trying to be the biggest slacker! There are also several expansions to Chez Geek, but we'll cover those later. For now, get ready to sleaze!

Instructions

    • 1

Get a deck. The basic Chez Geek deck has enough cards for about 5 people to play, but much more than that and you'll start needing some expansions.

    • 2

Purchase several 6-sided and 20-sided dice if you do not have them already. Most respectable gamers already have these, but if you're just starting down the road to gamerdom, your local game store will be well stocked with these. There are also companies online that sell huge grab-bags of various dice for a modest price. In any case, you'll need 1 d20 (20-sided die) per player.

    • 3

Weed out all the career cards (the ones with the purple border) and set them aside.

    • 4

Sift out the blank cards and set them aside. These are meant to be open ended: you can make your own cards with these.

    • 5

Shuffle the rest of the cards.

    • 6

Have everyone randomly draw a career card. The career card tells you how much free time you have per turn, as well as how much income you make and any other special perks you get.

    • 7

Deal 6 cards to everyone. From here on out, you draw up to 7 cards at the beginning of each turn. So, deal 6 and when your turn comes around, draw 1 to start. Thereafter, you draw cards up until you have 7 in your hand.

    • 8

Use 1 free time to do any of the following: go shopping (to buy items, only 1 free time need be spent to buy any amount of stuff), perform an action (Sleep, Hang out at Coffee Shop, Go to Concert, etc.) or call someone (The Motivator, Live-In S.O. and the like.) Note that pets and bad people like the Choad Warrior and Ubergeek do not need to be called; they simply show up in your chosen victim's room. To call a good person, roll a d6 (6-sided die). On a 3 or higher, they show up. On a 1 or 2, they are placed in the discard pile.

    • 9

Use income to purchase goods and increase your Slack. Remember, you need only spend 1 free time to go shopping and buy as many items as you like.

    • 10

Use "Whenever" cards whenever you'd like, either on your turn or an opponent's.

    • 11

Slack! Your ultimate goal is to attain the Slack indicated on your career card's Slack Goal. Most are around 16-18 Slack. Use your d20 to keep track of how much Slack you've got.

    • 12

Have fun and remember that your opponent winning means you lose! Feel free to play cards like "Sucks to be you!", "Brain Fart" and "Dude, I'm broke!" on your fellow players, but don't be surprised when you get a load of "Guy with Chainsaw" when you try to sleep!
