Book your train ride at the foreigner's ticket office in Xian. The office is located on the second floor of the train station. You can also complete your booking on the Internet or through travel agencies. Most major hotels in Xian offer ticket reservation services to their guests.

Choose a train. Three regular T trains and one luxurious Z train have daily service to Beijing. They all depart within an hour of each other and, except for the Z train, vary by mere minutes in arrival time. The Z train is an express and arrives faster.

Select a travel class, from hard seats to soft sleepers. The fares reflect the comfort level of each class. Hard seat compartments do have hard, wooden seats but this class is the most affordable.

Try riding one of the many bus lines to your stop. Buses are very inexpensive and tickets cost between 1 and 2 Rembini (25 cents).

Hire a taxi for convenience. You may need an interpreter to tell the driver where you are going. Consider having your destination written down in Chinese.

Take your passport with you if you are making your train reservation at the foreigner's ticket office. You will need it for registration.
Know that you can only buy one-way tickets.
Buy tickets as soon as they are available to avoid tickets selling out, or getting a ticket with no seat attached and having to spend the journey standing.
Arrive early for your journey. The Xian station is extremely busy. You'll want to avoid the large rush hour crowds.
