How to Use Letter Recognizer to Write on an HP iPAQ Screen

To expedite data input and writing, you can use Letter Recognizer on an HP iPAQ screen. This way you don't have to use an unwieldy auxiliary keyboard or a tiny screen or fold-out device to type. With Letter Recognizer, your HP iPAQ will recognize the strokes you make on the screen and translate them to the characters you intend. Follow these steps to find out how.

Things You'll Need:

  • HP iPAQ
  • stylus
  1. Step 1

    Tap the "Input Selector" on the bottom part of the screen and select "Letter Recognizer" as the input method. The iPAQ should bring up "Letter Recognizer" as an option when you tap it.

  2. Step 2

    Enter lowercase letters by writing in the middle area of the "Letter Recognizer" box. Trace the appropriate symbol for the lowercase letter you want to input.

  3. Step 3

    Enter uppercase letters by using your stylus in the far left part of the "Letter Recognizer" box. Trace the appropriate symbol for the capitalized letter you want to input.

  4. Step 4

    Enter numeric symbols by writing in the far right part of the "Letter Recognizer" box and tracing the shape that corresponds to the number you want to enter.

  5. Step 5

    Enter punctuation and other symbols by tracing the appropriate symbols in the far right part of the "Letter Recognizer" box.

Tips & Warnings
  • It takes practice! Be patient when learning how to use Letter Recognizer or Block Recognizer with your HP iPAQ handheld device.
  • If it takes too long to learn, there are several other comparable programs available for your HP iPAQ. Perform an Internet search for "HP iPAQ input options" to explore some of them.
  • Letter Recognizer provides a "Help" icon shaped like a question mark. Use it if you've forgotten the symbol you need or simply never learned it.
