How to Create a Business Ad on Craigslist

If you're starting a business, or already have one that you want to build, Craigslist is a great place to advertise. Follow these steps to create a business ad on Craigslist.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Craigslist Web site (see Resources) and select your geographic location in the "State and City" list on the right of the screen.

  2. Step 2

    On the left side of the page, toward the top, click the link "Post to Classifieds."

  3. Step 3

    Choose the appropriate heading for type of the business you' re advertising. There are numerous choices, so be specific.

  4. Step 4

    Now choose a more specific category from within the list that comes under your heading. Your choice should clearly reflect the nature of your business.

  5. Step 5

    Fill out all of the fields that appear for your ad. This is your chance to make an impression, so take care describing your business. Gear your advertisement to your target audience.

  6. Step 6

    A verification e-mail will be sent to you by Craigslist to verify that you are an actual person, and not some spamming software trying to clog Craigslist.

  7. Step 7

    Wait for all the leads to pour into your e-mail inbox.

  • If you're unsure of your writing ability, ask a friend to edit your text before posting your ad.

on 6/9/2009 All great tips! I use a site called www.slipdex.com to make ads and post to craigslist and backpage. It is all html based so it makes you ad look just like a webpage. You can upload 5 pics and you can even track your ad. It is pretty cool. Helped me increase sales for sure!Jason
