How to Send a Fax From a Multi-Function Printer
Multi-function printers can do it all, provided you know what you are doing. Sending a fax from one of these versatile machines is not much different from making copies; you just need to dial up a fax number before you hit the start button. Follow these steps to send a fax from a multi-function printer:
Instructions

1
Set up your multi-function printer to send faxes. Make sure the machine is hooked up to a working phone line.
-
2
Use the printer's control panel to enter your station ID. This usually consists of your name or business name and the fax number from which you are sending. Once you have this stored in the machine's memory, you will not need to do this again.

-
3
Insert the documents you want to fax into the document feeder. Usually you need to have these items face down, but check your manual as printer models may differ.
-
4
Set the resolution. Better resolution is needed for items with fine print or photographs, but the extra quality requires more transmission time.
-
5
Manually adjust the contrast for very light or very dark documents. Most faxes will automatically adjust the contrast, but items at the extreme ends of the range tend to be more than the automatic adjust can handle.
-
6
Get a dial tone. On some multi-function printers, you need to pick up a handset; with others you press a dial button or something similar.
-
7
Enter the fax number you want to reach. Let the system prepare to send, which might take a few moments.
-
8
Press the send button when the multi-function printer tells you it is ready to go. Some printers will flash a ready light, beep a distinctive tone, or use the LCD display to let you know when it is okay to fax.

Tips & Warnings
Depending on the specific features of your multi-function printer, you may be able to set up an automatic cover page, create a directory of fax numbers, or set the machine to deliver faxes automatically. Play around with your printer and see what it can do.
A cover page is considered good fax etiquette, especially when sending to someone for the first time.
Do not use crumpled, torn, stapled or otherwise mutilated sheets of paper in your multi-function printer.
