How to Find Out Remaining Battery Time on a Camcorder

Each camcorder’s display is slightly unique in setup. Most, however, despite slight variations, are basically universal. Without any searching or menu browsing, you can usually find the battery icon on your LCD screen or viewfinder just by looking in one of the top corners of the display. The battery icon is almost always in the shape of a battery and in either the upper left hand or right hand corner of the screen.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • camcorder
  • ac adapter

Step1
Look in the top corners of your LCD screen or view finder image for an icon that looks like a battery lying on its side.
Step2
Read the amount of battery life that remains by studying the battery icon. Like cell phones, and most battery operated electronic devices, camcorders usually label battery life with a series of bars, or a percentage of the charge that has been used.
Step3
If you are unsure of whether the percentage refers to amount of battery used, or the amount of battery charge remaining, please refer to your camera’s manual, as this is not consistent among all brands and models.

Charging the Battery with the AC Adapter

Step1
Keep the battery connected to the camera.
Step2
Connect the AC Power Adapter to its supplemental AC Power Cord.
Step3
Connect the AC end of the cord to the wall socket.
Step4
Connect the DC end of the cord into the DC socket on the battery pack or camera (wherever it may be). If the AC power acknowledgement light does not light up, try turning the camera off. Some battery/camcorder set ups only charge a battery when it is turned off. Different brands and models might allow you to charge and record at the same time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most brands and models of camcorder will offer blinking warnings when the depletion of the battery’s charge is approaching. This is a good time to either replace the battery or hook up the AC Adapter.
  • It is always a good idea to have multiple batteries for one camcorder.
  • Using features, primarily the zoom feature, can deplete the battery faster than normal usage.
  • As long as the battery is connected to the camcorder, it will continue to discharge. This means that even when you are not using the camcorder the battery is still in use. This is true even when the camera is turned off. Therefore, you should store the battery and camcorder disconnected from each other.
