So you think you're ready for the big time, do ya? Well here you go. You're going to need some big air to nail the frontside back roll. And some even bigger, uh, courage.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Start your approach about 10 to 15 feet outside the wake, riding on your toe side.

  2. Step 2

Ride hard on your edge that is closer to the wake.

  3. Step 3

    Cut fast toward the wake.

  4. Step 4

Keep your weight pretty well centered as you hit the wake. Be careful not to lean too far either forward or backward.

  5. Step 5

Point the nose of your board up and away from the boat as you start to launch off the lip of the wake.

  6. Step 6

Throw your head back as you launch off the top of the wake, keeping your eyes back and over your right shoulder (if your left foot is your forward foot; look over your left shoulder if you ride right foot forward).

  7. Step 7

Roll in the air. If your approach was correct, and the line is properly loaded, you shouldn't have to throw your body too much. You should just be naturally pulling through the roll.

  8. Step 8

Keep your body position stable in the air.

  9. Step 9

    Look for your landing.

  10. Step 10

Land and bend your knees to absorb the impact.

  11. Step 11

Check to see that you are still riding your board, and listen for the cheers of your friends in the boat. If, at this point, you are in the water, figure out what you did wrong and try it again.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a very advanced maneuver, and if you're having a lot of trouble learning it, you might not be ready. Learn the basic jumps first.
  • Always wear a life jacket and observe proper boating safety when wakeboarding.
