Online virtual pets are a great way to build imagination, prepare for the responsibilities of a real pet or just have fun.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide if you want your pet to be based on a real animal such as a cat or dog, a fantasy creature such as a dragon or unicorn, or something completely made up by the Web site.

  2. Step 2

Do a search for "virtual pets" using a standard search engine, or ask your friends which virtual pet sites they use.

  3. Step 3

Visit a variety of virtual pet sites and learn as much as you can about each one. Pay attention to how much responsibility you'll have (some virtual pets require a great deal of care) and what kinds of games and activities you'll be able to do with your pet.

  4. Step 4

Choose a site to host your virtual pet based on your desired features.

  5. Step 5

Follow the site's instructions for creating an account. You'll be asked to provide information such as your name and e-mail address.

  6. Step 6

Follow the site's instructions for creating a new pet. You'll be asked to give your pet a name and choose other specifications, such as breed, gender and appearance.

  7. Step 7

Allow your pet to grow and gain abilities by feeding him or her regularly and participating in other activities on the site.

  8. Step 8

Visit your pet often and play games together to keep him or her happy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Each virtual pet site has its own features. Explore your particular site to find all the fun things you can do with your pet.
  • If you find yourself bored or unable to maintain your pet, many sites offer the option of sending your pet to a "virtual pound" where he or she can be adopted by other users.
