Make a Draft-Dodger Snake

This is one way to recycle Dad's old neckties. This clever snake will keep drafts from sneaking under doors or windows.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Sew the narrow end of a necktie closed.

  2. Step 2

Stitch the back closed, forming a tube with the wide end open.

  3. Step 3

Fill the snake with polypropylene pellets.

  4. Step 4

    Sew the wide end shut.

  5. Step 5

Cut a forked tongue from red felt and glue it to the back of the point at the wide end of the tie.

  6. Step 6

Glue on a pair of eyes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Polypropylene pellets are washable and nontoxic. These are typically used to stuff "beanies."
  • Use a wide tie, not a narrow one or you'll have trouble filling it and it won't be fat enough to really keep out the cold.
  • Don't let small children or pets eat the pellets.

on 12/4/2008 cat litter or sand also works greats as a filler. Better to recycle also.

on 8/20/2008 Cute idea. I can't wait to try it with my grandchildren--who always want a "project" when they come to visit. Please, give us more, more, and more ideas of what to do with ties!
