How to Publish a Web Site With Dreamweaver

When your page is finished and ready to be put on the Web, Dreamweaver 3 makes it easy with custom publishing features. Be sure to save your pages first!

Things You'll Need:

    Publish a Web Site with FTP

  1. Step 1

    In the Site window, open the Web site to be published.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the files to be published from the Local pane of the window (on the right side of the screen).

  3. Step 3

    Open the Site menu and select Put.

  4. Step 4

    Click Yes at the Upload Dependent Files box if you wish to publish the entire site, keeping the directory setup intact.

  5. Set Up the FTP Connection

  6. Step 1

    Contact your ISP to find out the address of your File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server, which is where your page will be located (for example: ftp.isp.com), your login name and any passwords you need.

  7. Step 2

    Start Dreamweaver and open the site to be published.

  8. Step 3

    Click on the Site window. Open the Site menu and select Define Sites.

  9. Step 4

    Select the desired local site and choose Edit.

  10. Step 5

    Click on Web Server Info from the list in the box at left. Choose the FTP option.

  11. Step 6

    Type the FTP server address that you got from your ISP without the ftp:// in front of it.

  12. Step 7

    Type your login name and password. Uncheck the Save box if you do not wish the password to be saved (you will be prompted to enter the password each time you publish).

  13. Step 8

    Click OK.
