How to Bring a New Member Into a Director Cast

Cast Members are the pictures, text, sounds, videos, buttons, animations, transitions, scripts and other items that you use in your Macromedia Director movie. The Cast window contains the Cast Members. You add content to a Director movie by bringing new members into the Director Cast. These instructions apply to Macromedia Director 5.0. Procedures for other versions may vary.

Things You'll Need:

  • Macromedia Director

    Importing a Cast Member

  1. Step 1

    Click Import under the File menu.

  2. Step 2

    Indicate the type of file you want to import in the pop-up window.

  3. Step 3

    Select your file. Click Import. Your file appears in the first available space in the Cast Window - thereby creating a new Cast Member.

  4. Creating a Cast Member within Director

  5. Step 1

    Open or create a Director movie.

  6. Step 2

    Navigate into the Window menu and open one of the windows used for creating new Cast Members (such as Paint Window, Script Window, or Text Window).

  7. Step 3

    Create your new Cast Member. The new member is automatically entered in the first available space in the Cast window.

  8. Step 4

    Click on the Add button (the little plus sign on the top left side of the window) to add another Cast Member of the same type. A new window opens for you to create another member.

Tips & Warnings
  • To place your Cast Member in a certain spot in the Cast window, first click in that space to activate it, and then create your new Cast Member.
