You still need one more piece of equipment after buying clipless pedals and bike shoes - cleats that attach to your shoes, allowing you to fasten your shoes to your pedals.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Buy a pair of cleats designed to match your pedals.

  2. Step 2

Take the insoles out of your bike shoes.

  3. Step 3

Flip your shoes over so that the soles face up.

  4. Step 4

Remove the detachable piece of rubber located on the front third of the soles. You'll uncover a hole through the sole.

  5. Step 5

Place the flat nut that comes with the cleat inside the shoe where the hole is located.

  6. Step 6

Grab the metal cleat with the screws and place it on the sole of the shoe lining it up with the inner nut. You should have the nut inside your shoe and the cleat outside on the sole of your shoe.

  7. Step 7

Use an Allen wrench to tighten the screws in place.

  8. Step 8

    Replace your insoles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most shoes have room to slide the cleats forward and backward about an inch. Test exactly how far forward you prefer your cleat on the shoe while riding.
