Riding against a head wind can be a challenge. Here are some ways to make it easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Get into an aerodynamic position. If you are on a road bike, put your hands on the drops or on top of the bar near the stem. On a mountain bike, bring your arms in. Scoot back on the saddle and lower your head.

  2. Step 2

Push a bigger gear. Spinning isn't very effective in a head wind. Drop your cadence a bit and focus on smooth power.

  3. Step 3

Ride with another cyclist and take turns pulling at the front. When you're behind another rider, you'll do about 20 percent less work.

  4. Step 4

Smile. A head wind now means a tailwind on the way back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear a helmet when cycling.
  • Cycling is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek the proper equipment and training before undertaking this activity.
