Instructions
-
-
1
Make or purchase Valentine cookies, candy, or a gift for each child.
-
2
Wrap in Valentine wrapping paper.
-
-
3
Choose a final hiding place.
-
4
Make a list of specific areas in your home or yard where you can hide notes. Write the name of the hiding place for the gift at the bottom of the list.
-
5
Create a rhyming clue for each one of the places that will lead the child to that specific place. An example is: "Check the drawer where you keep these pairs; there are some that are blue and maybe some with bears. You wear them inside your shoes; before you put them on, check around for clues!" This clue will lead the child to his or her sock drawer.
-
6
Decorate the notes with stickers or glitter to make them special. You can also write them on some small Valentine cards.
-
7
Set aside the clue that will lead the child to the first place on the list.
-
8
Hide each remaining clue in the location above the place it describes on the list. For example, if your list says bathtub, closet and cereal cupboard, hide the clue for the closet in the bathtub, hide the clue for the cereal cupboard in the closet and so on.
-
9
Give your child the first clue and watch him or her follow the clues. You may need to explain that he or she must follow the clues. Help younger children read the notes if necessary.
-
10
Watch your child's face as he or she deciphers each clue and finds the surprise at the end of the hunt!

Tips & Warnings
Try hiding one small gift or piece of candy with each clue to make the hunt more exciting.
Make your clues harder to figure out for older children and easier for younger children.
This can be played as a party game as well. Give each child one clue that will lead to one prize. Or have the partygoers work on following the clues as a group. At the end, they will find a bag of prizes or candy.
