Electrolysis is a way to permanently remove unwanted hair. It requires many sessions in which hairs are destroyed with an electric current, then plucked out. It is not a pain-free procedure.

From Quick Guide: Hair Removal
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Toners
  • Bath Towels
  • Analgesics
  • Body Washes
  1. Step 1

Plan on having electrolysis every six weeks for one to three years to achieve the best results.

  2. Step 2

Be prepared to spend anywhere from $25 to $120 per hour of treatment. Factors that affect total cost include which parts you want treated, the amount of hair you have, additional skin care for problems that may result afterwards, and medication for pain relief.

  3. Step 3

Remove all makeup in the places where you will be having electrolysis.

  4. Step 4

Avoid showering or getting hairs wet for several hours before electrolysis. Water softens the hair shafts, causing them to droop. Hairs will be easier to remove if they are upright.

  5. Step 5

Take a mild analgesic 30 to 60 minutes before electrolysis. It will help ease the discomfort caused by the procedure.

  6. Step 6

Use only reputable electrolysis salons. Make sure conditions are clean and that fresh electrolysis probes are used for each client.

on 10/9/2008 I wouldn't call electrolysis painful--rather, irritating. After each treatment , apply aloe and ice. I can truly say it is the only permanent answer to a serious facial hair problem.
