How to Ride a Kneeboard

Though fairly simple, achieving the proper riding position on your kneeboard is the key to a good foundation of skills.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Kneel on the kneeboard with your knees 1 to 2 inches from the front of the rubber knee pad.
Step2
Keep your legs together, with your ankles wide enough apart to sit your rear end between them.
Step3
Sit your rear end between your ankles and pull the strap across your thighs.
Step4
Secure the fabric fastener of the strap.
Step5
Keep your torso upright and rigid, not leaning forward. Lean backward only enough to counter the pull of the boat.
Step6
Hold the rope with both hands, with your arms extended out in front of you. Keep your hands relaxed, but maintain a firm grip.
Step7
Keep your hands level and try not to look directly down at the water - keep your eyes on the horizon.

Tips & Warnings

  • The most common mistake that beginning kneeboarders make is to lean too far back, which causes the board to bounce.
  • Always wear a life vest and observe proper boating safety when kneeboarding.
