Step 1
Play this game on long car rides.

Step 2
Make a list of all the states in alphabetical order. You can do this in the car or before you leave home.

Watch the license plates of cars as you drive.

Step 4
Call out license plates from states you have not yet seen and record them on the list.

Step 5
Try to find license plates from all the states.

Step 6
Keep a total for how many different plates you see on each day of the car trip or make one big list for the whole trip.

Step 7
Keep an eye out for Hawaii and Alaska, the "Boardwalks" of the License Plate Game!

on 11/22/2005 Depending on your destination, you can assign point totals for each state. Over time, you can develop more refined point totals and perfect the game. Also, be sure to make point totals on semis lower.

on 11/22/2005 We record the design of the plate as well. For instance, in Virginia there is Chesapeake, Cardinal, Jamestown, Humane Society, leaves, plain blue, etc. The person who sees the state first gets 2 points, but 1 point is given for each new design.
