Step 1
Consider whether the bracelet is for you or someone else. If it's for someone else, think about that person's style. Does the person usually wear delicate, understated jewelry, or does he or she go for larger, "stand-out" pieces? Any favorite colors?
-
Step 2
Look through online and print jewelry catalogs and visit jewelry-making Web sites for design ideas and inspiration. Explore your design options.
-
Step 3
Look at online and print jewelry and bead supply catalogs. Often, you will find beads, charms or other jewelry-making items that will help you come up with a design idea.
-
Step 4
Think about the elements you most want to include in your bracelet and make some pencil sketches of possible designs. Put the designs away for a day or so, re-examine them and make any adjustments necessary.
-
Step 5
Decide on a bracelet design and look for beads, cording, charms, findings and other items that will help you achieve the desired design.
-
Step 6
Lay out the materials for your bracelet before you begin construction. Make sure that the colors you use are compatible and that all elements are in balance with one another.
-
Step 7
Consider practicing your construction methods with inexpensive materials before you begin your project. This will be especially helpful with items such as braided or knotted bracelets.

on 2/28/2006 Try using random items found around the house for unique bracelets. Playing pieces from old board games, such as Scrabble letters or Monopoly charms can make for great unique jewelry (especially charm bracelets) that everyone can love. Make sure to have wire, whatever string you want to use, hot glue (and gun), and beads at the ready for whenever inspiration strikes. Good luck!
