How to Use a Voice Password in Mac OS 9
If you've set up your OS 9 system for multiple users, your voice can be your password. Here's how to get your Mac to recognize when you talk to it.
Instructions

1
Make sure your computer is set up for multiple users. (See "How to Set Up Your Computer for Multiple Users in Mac OS 9," in Related eHows for instructions.)
-
2
Open on the Apple menu and select Control Panels.
-
-
3
Select the Sound control panel. Once it opens, select Input from the menu on the left.
-
4
Select your Built-in Mic as the Input Source. (If you use an external mic, select that instead.)
-
5
Open the Multiple Users control panel.
-
6
Double-click your user name (or select the name and click Open).
-
7
In the box that appears, click the Alternate Password tab. Mark the "This user will use the alternate password" checkbox and click the Create Voiceprint button.
-
8
Click the Change Phrase button.
-
9
Type a new phrase into the window. Keep it simple, but use about half a dozen words for a good voice sample. Click OK.
-
10
Click Continue. Next, you'll record your voiceprint phrase four times.
-
11
Click the Record First button.
-
12
Click the Record button and speak the phrase you typed earlier.
-
13
Click Stop. Your Mac will tell you if it got a good voice sample. Use an even tone, neither too soft nor too loud, and keep it consistent from sample to sample. Your Mac needs four good samples, so be patient - it's for your security.
-
14
Click the Done button after each good sample.
-
15
Click the Try It button after the fourth good sample. This lets you try logging on with your voiceprint password.

Tips & Warnings
Your voiceprint is kind of like a fingerprint - another user can say the same phrase, but only you can say it in your voice, which is what your Mac will recognize.
If you use an external mic to record your voiceprint password, make sure it's a USB or PlainTalk mic.
You will get three tries to log in with your voiceprint password. If those tries fail, you can type in your password.
