Rate: (5 Ratings)

Annotating your worksheet can help tell people why you made the choices you did or how to interpret your spreadsheet. These steps work with Microsoft Excel 2000.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Open the Excel spreadsheet you wish to change.
Step2
Select the cell into which you'll write your comment.
Step3
Choose Comment under the Insert menu.
Step4
Type your comment into the resulting box.
Step5
Finish typing and click outside the box to save your comment.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cells with comments have a red triangle in the upper right corner. To see the comment after you've written it, place the pointer in the cell; the comment appears as a "bubble" to the right of the cell. The comment disappears when you move the pointer off the cell.
  • To edit comments, right-click the cell with the comment and choose Edit Comment.
  • Add comments to your templates if you wish each successive spreadsheet to reflect these comments.
