With Excel 97, you can post a Web page that asks users to submit data to be incorporated into a spreadsheet (perhaps you need budget numbers for several departments, for example). You set up the spreadsheet first; then, when users enter the data through the Web page, it's automatically inserted into the appropriate cells in the spreadsheet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Go into Microsoft Excel and open the worksheet you want to make into a Web form.
Step2
Open the Tools menu and select Wizard, then select Web Form.
Step3
Follow the instructions in the Web Form wizard.
Step4
In the second set of instructions, select which cell or range of cells you need data for.
Step5
Click Next.
Step6
Select your server type.
Step7
Click Next.
Step8
Enter the location and file name of the Web page you're adding the form to.
Step9
Click Next.
Step10
Enter your closing message. This message will appear after the Web user enters the required data.
Step11
Follow the instructions in the Web Form wizard.
Step12
Click Next.
Step13
Click Finish.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the Web Form command doesn't appear on the Wizard submenu of the Tools menu in Microsoft Excel, install the Web Form Wizard add-in program using your Excel or Office CD.
  • Determine what data you want to gather from your users, and then create a form using an Excel worksheet.
  • Find out what interface your server uses to receive data from Web users.
