Pictures are worth a thousand words, even if they can ratchet up that page size. Use the organizational tools in Microsoft FrontPage 2000 to keep track of images and where they are located.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web (site).

  2. Step 2

Open a Web page and place the cursor where you want the image to appear.

  3. Step 3

Choose Picture from the Insert menu and select the picture type (clip art or file).

  4. Step 4

To use images located in the current web, choose Select the Image from the window above the URL bar. If you don't see the image, open the Images folder and see if you find it there.

  5. Step 5

To choose other images on the hard drive (but not the Microsoft clip art included with FrontPage), click on the Select File button (it resembles a file folder with a magnifying glass).

  6. Step 6

To use pre-loaded Microsoft clip art, click the Clipart button at the bottom of the window. Select a category or use the keyword feature. Click on the image you want to use and click OK.

  7. Step 7

To use an image from the Internet, click on the World Wide Web button (it resembles a globe with a magnifying glass) or type the URL (Web address) for the image.

  8. Step 8

    Save the page when finished.

  9. Step 9

Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialogue box, choose a browser and settings.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's best to add images to the web before adding them to a page (see "Import a File into FrontPage" in the Related eHows section). This step ensures that all necessary files are uploaded to the Web when you publish the site. (If you use a file from your hard drive, you'll have to remember to transfer it.) Once you've added an image to a web, you can add it to multiple pages in the site.
  • Use graphics sparingly on your page. Too many images clutter a page, confuse the eye and make pages download slowly.
  • The instructions for using FrontPage 97 are similar, but you click tabs instead of buttons to use images from different locations.
  • Most sites will not allow you to link to images on their servers. It's best to go to the page, download the picture onto your hard drive, and then publish it with your Web page, as long as the site owner gives you permission. Do not use images from another Web page without permission from the owner.
  • Most pre-loaded clip art that comes with FrontPage is suitable for use on your Web site. If you are unsure, contact Microsoft before using the art.
