You can take screenshots in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim computer game, but not by using the standard Print Screen method. Pressing the Print Screen button and then pasting the image in Paint or another image editor will result in a black image. To take screenshots of the impressive landscapes and combat situations, you need to enable the Screenshot function. Images are saved automatically, so you don't need to minimize or close the game to save them.
Press "Windows-X" to expand the Power User menu and click "File Explorer" to launch the File Explorer.
Select the system drive and open the "Users/YourUsername/My Documents/My Games/Skyrim" folder.
Double-click the "skyrim.ini" file to open it in Notepad or the default text editor.
Locate the "bAllowscreenshot=" function and change its value from "0" to "1."
Press "Ctrl-S" to save the changes and close the text editor.
Launch Skyrim and press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard to take a screenshot. You won't hear any sounds, but the game will pause, or lag, for less than a second.
Tips & Warnings
- The screenshots are saved in the Steam\Steamapps\Common\Skyrim folder by default. The Steam folder is commonly located in the Program Files folder on the system drive.
- If the "bAllowscreenshot=1" line does not exist, type or paste it into the skyrim.ini file.
- If you still can't take screenshots, set the anti-aliasing option to zero in Skyrim's display settings.
