How to Put Spike Studs on Stilettos

Save

Shoes are one of the most important parts of your sartorial statement, as they punctuate an outfit like an exclamation mark does a sentence. But keeping up with the latest shoe trends, like the spiked stiletto, can become very expensive, very quickly. Instead of splurging on a new pair of rocker chic-heels, make over an old pair by adding the spikes yourself. All you need are a few supplies and smidgen of craftiness to get your own pair of perfectly studded pumps.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 pair of high heels
  • Superglue
  • 20 3/8-inch metal hex spikes
  • Rhinestones
  • Plan out a pattern for how you want your spikes to be arranged on the rounded backside of your heels. You can draw a diagram on a piece of paper, or, if you're a confident crafter, simply eyeball where you want your studs to go. Leave enough space between the studs for the rhinestones.

  • With superglue, secure the studs to the back of the shoes, right behind where the heel of your foot rests. Clean up any excess superglue with a Q-tip.

  • Superglue the rhinestones around and between the spikes. For a professional and finished look, cover the entire heel with rhinestones that are the same color as the shoe, stopping above the heel peg. Let the glue dry for at least 24 hours before wearing.

Tips & Warnings

  • The superglue will hold best on shoes made of a textured material, such as leather, suede or a suede-like material. Keep a few extra studs and rhinestones at home in case any fall off.
