Whether messy or refined, braided updos are appropriate for almost every occasion, from a boho wedding or night out with the girls to a conservative business meeting. You might be intimidated to attempt a braided twist updo yourself, however, it's much less stressful than you may think. Prepare your hair properly, and gather the necessary products to achieve a professional looking braided twist updo at home in a matter of minutes.
Things You'll Need
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Leave-in conditioner
- Wide-tooth comb
- Blow dryer
- Plastic clips
- Styling cream
- Bobby pins
- Firm-hold hairspray
Wash and condition your hair with a preferred product. Rinse out the conditioner, and towel dry your hair once you emerge from the shower. Apply a leave-in conditioner, and work through any tangles with a wide-tooth comb. Blow-dry your hair, or allow it to air dry completely.
Divide your hair into three even sections, and secure each with a plastic clip. Remove the clip from the first section, and work a styling cream through it with your fingers. Braid the first section, and secure the bottom with a small hairtie. Remove the second and third clips and also braid these sections. To create a more polished appearance, form tight braids. For a more casual, messy look braid the sections more loosely.
Grasp either of the outer braids, and begin twisting and knotting it around the index and middle finger of your hand. Once the braid is completely twisted, secure it against your scalp with bobby pins. Repeat this on the other two braids. For a less-polished look, twist and knot the braids loosely, and leave the bobby pins exposed. For a more professional look, twist the braids until they're tight to your scalp, and secure them with the bobby pins hiding underneath the hair.
Spritz the braids with a firm-hold hairspray. Whether you're creating a loose, funky or more refined twisted updo, the firm-hold hairspray will keep your locks in place throughout the day.
