How to Do a License Transfer on Xbox

Purchasing and downloading any digital item on your Xbox 360 creates a local license on that console, enabling you to use downloaded items while offline or share those items with other users of the console. When you purchase a new Xbox 360, or repair a previously owned one, you must transfer your local content licenses to the new console, which is a free process you can do directly from your Xbox 360. You must have an Internet connection to your Xbox 360 to do a license transfer. In addition, you can only transfer your licenses once every four months.

  • Select the "Settings" tab of your Xbox 360 dashboard and select "Account."

  • Select "License Transfer" in the Your Billing Options menu.

  • Press "A" to begin the license transfer. Once complete, press "A" again to view your download history. You will need to download previously purchased software again to update the licenses.

  • Select the item you want to download and select "Download Again." Download all previously purchased items to complete the license transfer process.
