How to Manually Restore Call History on an iPhone

The information that is backed up by iCloud or iTunes from your iPhone includes many things, including your phone call history. If you have accidentally cleared your call history or deleted some numbers you wish to get back into your history listing, you can restore these numbers from your last backup file. Obviously, only numbers that are in your last back up can be restored. However, if you use iCloud to back up your iPhone, you likely have a backup that is no more than one day old.

  • Ensure that your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and has internet access. The iPhone needs Internet access through Wi-Fi so that it can access the iCloud back up.

  • Plug your iPhone into the charging cable to ensure that there are no battery issues during the data restoration process.

  • Tap Settings | General | Reset | Erase All Content and Settings. This is required in order to force your iPhone into a mode to restore from iCloud. All your data will be restored from iCloud.

  • Select "Restore From iCloud Backup" when the iPhone setup assistant prompts you after you have erased your settings in Step 3.

  • Enter your iCloud username and password when prompted.

  • Enter any other passwords for other accounts if you are prompted. The passwords for your email accounts that you access using your iPhone are not saved in the backup. All the server settings and your usernames are saved, but you may have to provide the passwords again.

  • Keep your iPhone plugged into the charger until the restore is complete. There is a progress bar that will keep you informed of the time left before it is complete. Once you see the pop-up window informing you that the restore is complete, you can disconnect your iPhone. The longest part of the restore process is usually the download of the software image for the iPhone from Apple, which can take 30 minutes or more depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
