How to Put Clear Lacquer on Your Boots

Save

You’ve finished your workday and are finally getting ready to hit the town. You may think that you have all of your wardrobe bases covered and that you look sharp as a tack, but if your leather boots have lost their shine, chances are you don’t look nearly as polished as you could. Your boots are one of the first things that people will notice about you, and they can tell a lot about your style. Although maintaining a shiny gloss on your leather boots may not be a top priority on your to-do list, it is a simple task that can go long way to keeping a polished look.

Things You'll Need

  • Leather Gloss
  • Dry sponge
  • Damp cloth
  • Clean, dry outdoor or well-ventilated space

Cream Gloss

  • Take your boot to your workspace. Place boots on a flat, clean surface. With a damp towel, thoroughly remove all dirt, mud, grime and residual gloss from each boot. Allow boots to dry for 10 minutes or until leather is no longer moist.

  • Lightly dip your dry sponge into the jar of gloss. Gently rub gloss onto the leather of the boot in rapid, circular motions. Dip and apply gloss until the entire boot is coated with a thin, shiny layer of gloss. Repeat process on next boot.

  • Allow the boots to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.

Spray Gloss

  • Take your boots to your workspace. Place boots on a flat, clean surface. With a damp towel, thoroughly remove all dirt, mud, grime and residual gloss from each boot. Allow boots to dry for 10 minutes or until leather is no longer moist.

  • Facing upwind from the spray can, aim the can 6 to 8 inches from the boot and spray the outside leather with several short spray bursts. Rotate the boot and spray until the entire shoe is coated with a thin, shiny layer of gloss. Repeat process on next boot.

  • Allow boots to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
