How to Delete Music off of a Compact Flash Card for an MP3 Player

You can't increase the storage space on your MP3 player without buying a new CompactFlash card, but you can delete music off the card and replace it with new audio files. Updating your playlist frequently is cheaper than buying a new, larger CF card whenever you run out of storage space.

Things You'll Need

  • CompactFlash card reader
  • Connect the CompactFlash card reader to your computer via USB. Some card readers have a cable, while others need to be plugged directly into a free USB port.

  • Insert the CompactFlash card into the CF card reader. Your computer immediately recognize the device as a storage device.

  • Press the "Windows" key, type "File Explorer" and click "File Explorer" in the list of results to launch the File Explorer. If you're using Windows 7, type "Windows Explorer" and click "Windows Explorer" in the list of results.

  • Select the drive assigned by Windows to your CF card. The contents of the CF card are displayed in the right pane.

  • Select the audio files you wish to delete. Press "Ctrl-A" to select everything on the card or hold "Ctrl" and click individual files to select them.

  • Press "Delete" and click "Yes" to confirm the action and delete music off the CF card.

  • Disconnect the CF card reader from your computer and then disconnect the CF card from the reader.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some MP3 players enable you to delete music off the CF card directly on the player; consult the documentation that came with the player to find out how to delete the audio files.
