DIY: Computer Keyboard Mods

One of the useful things you can do with your Windows computer is to modify your keyboard settings. By default, your keyboard will utilize a slow button repeat rate and a long button repeat delay. If you don’t like some of your keyboard settings you have the ability to make modifications to the settings in the Keyboard Properties dialog box.

Instructions

Go to the Windows Start menu and click on “Control Panel.” Type “keyboard” in the “Search Control Panel” box at the top-right of the window and hit the “Enter” key. Click the “Keyboard” link that appears below to open the keyboard settings modification page.

Open the “Speed” tab and make your keyboard modifications. Adjust the “Repeat delay” slider to the left to increase the character repeating delay or to the right to decrease the delay. Adjust the “Repeat rate” slider to the left to decrease the character repeating rate or to the right to increase the rate. Adjust the “Cursor blink rate” slider to the left to decrease the cursor blink rate or to the right to increase the rate.
