Transitions and other special effects spice up dull presentations.

Keynote offers a variety of transition animations, among other features, that lend presentations a more polished, professional appearance. One example is the page flip animation, which makes the slide to which it’s applied appear to turn like the page of a book when revealing the next slide. You can access effects from the Inspector window.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the “Inspector” button in the toolbar to bring up Keynote’s Inspector window. The Inspector centralizes many of Keynote’s editing and design functions in a single, small window.

    • 2

Click on the first slide to which you want to apply the animated page flip transition in the Slides section on the left side of Keynote’s interface. The slide is displayed in Keynote’s editing window.

    • 3

Click on the “Slide Inspector” tab in the Inspector window. The Inspector displays a list of relevant visualization options for the selected slide.

    • 4

Open the "Effect" drop-down menu and click “Page Flip” from the list. This applies the basic page flip animation to the slide.

    • 5

Enter an amount in seconds in the Duration field to establish how long the animation lasts. For example, the default setting of 1 causes the animation to last for one second. If you want it to last for one-half of a second, enter “0.5” without quotes, for example.

    • 6

Open the "Direction" drop-down menu and select a direction for the animation. The default setting of Left causes the page to flip from left to right, like a book. If you want it to go in the opposite direction, select “Right.” The animation can also start at the bottom if you select “Up” or the top if you select “Down.”

    • 7

Click “On Click” from the Start Transition drop-down menu to cause the animation to occur only once the presenter has clicked the screen. Alternatively, click “Automatically” to cause the transition to occur after a preset length of time. If this option is selected, you must enter a time in seconds in the Delay field. This represents how much time will pass from the moment the slide is first displayed to the moment the flip animation automatically occurs.

    • 8

Click on the “File” menu and click “Save” to save the Keynote presentation with the animated page flip transitions.

Tips & Warnings

  • Click another slide in the Slides list and apply the same transition effect to that slide if you wish.
