How to View Surveillance Footage on a DVR
A DVR can record security footage from a connected camera, such as when a company aims a security camera at a cash register to catch criminals, or mounts it in the hallway of a building to detect trespassers. You can review footage from a DVR at the location, or access the footage online with a Web browser if the DVR is connected to the Internet.

Non-Networked DVR

Plug the DVR’s power cord into a power outlet and power on the DVR.

Connect the DVR’s video cable to a port on a TV or monitor. Many TVs and monitors have HDMI ports that accept HDMI cables connected to the HDMI output of a DVR. Power on the TV or monitor.

Press the “Play” button on the DVR or on the DVR’s remote control to watch the surveillance footage.
Networked DVR

Launch a Web browser on a computer. You may also be able to access your DVR while you are on the go with a smartphone that can access the Internet.

Navigate to the address of the networked DVR.

Enter your username and password if the DVR is password-protected. The DVR’s control buttons appear on the page.

Click the “Play” button to start playing the security footage.

Tips & Warnings
Some DVRs used for recording security footage have the date and time stamped in the video frame, which you can use to fast forward or rewind to quickly find a particular period.
