The 3G2 media format is used by cell phones and can contain audio, video or both. You may need to convert your MP3 files to 3G2 files to play them or use them as ring tones on your cellphone. Many freely downloadable audio conversion utilities can change MP3 files into 3G2 files on your computer. You can transfer the converted 3G2 file to your cellphone after performing the conversion on your computer.

      Download eRightSoft’s SUPER and install it on your computer. Click the “Select the Output Container” box at the top of the SUPER window and select “3GP / 3G2” from the list. Drag and drop one or more MP3 files onto the box at the bottom of the SUPER window and click the “Encode” button to convert them to 3G2 format.

      Use Leawo Free 3GP converter, which can also convert to 3G2. This application is targeted at video file conversation, but you can also convert audio files with it. Click the “Add Video” button in the application and select your MP3 file. Click the “Profile” menu at the bottom of the window and select the “3GPP2-3rd Generation Partnership Project (*.3G2)” format from the profile menu. Click the large arrow-shaped button at the bottom right corner of the window to convert the MP3 file.

      Install Xilisoft Video Converter, which can also convert audio files. Click the “File” menu in the application, click “Add File” and select your MP3 file. Click the “Profile” box and select the “3GPP2” profile under the Mobile Phone category. Convert the file by clicking the “Convert” button at the top of the window; you can also select multiple files and convert them all at once.

Tips & Warnings

  • These programs just create copies of your MP3 file; you’ll still have the original MP3 file after creating a 3G2 file.
