How to Transfer a Station With SMDI

SMDI (Simplified Message Desk Interface) is a basic protocol that interfaces phone networks, connecting voice mail systems and phone systems in a centralized structure. One way to use SMDI is to transfer calls from one station to another. This can be set up after a certain number of rings, ensuring that calls will get answered even if the person with the first phone is not able to pick up. Setting up a station transfer is relatively simple. As with everything SMDI, you control it from any computer connected to the network

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your SMDI account. If you got SMDI through a telephone network (like Cisco or Avaya), you may need to go through their system to access SMDI.

    • 2

Click “Subscribers,” and then “Call Transfer.”

    • 3

Select “Supervise Transfer” under “Transfer Type.”

    • 4

Enter the number you wish to transfer to in the first box. Depending on how you have your network set up, you can either add a complete number (including area code) or just an extension, prefaced with an asterisk (*).

    • 5

Enter a number next to “Rings to Wait For” before the transfer. It should be at least one, but probably not more than five or six.

    • 6

      Click “Save.”
