View your CCTV cameras from anywhere over the Internet.

An Internet-enabled CCTV camera system is the best of both worlds, because you can view images from the cameras over your local network and the Internet. However, the process to view the cameras over the Internet requires a few more steps than viewing them over a local network. This is because you must configure the router on your local network to allow access to the CCTV system from the Internet. Configure the router by opening a port for access to the CCTV system.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser, then enter your router's IP address in the address bar. The router's Administration Sign In page opens. Enter your login information, then click "Sign In."

    • 2

Click the "Advanced" or "Utilities" tab, then select "Security."

    • 3

Click "Port Forwarding" or "DMZ Server," then enter the IP address of the CCTV system's DVR and the port number required by the system in the appropriate fields. Read the CCTV system's user manual for the port number to use. Click "Save Settings" or "Apply."

Open a new browser window, then enter the URL of a website that checks the IP address of your Internet connection. MyIPaddress.com, WhatIsMyIPAddress.com and MyIPaddress.com are examples of sites you can use. Record the IP address that displays.

Launch a Web browser on a computer outside of your home network, then enter the IP address you previously recorded. The CCTV system cameras display. If applicable, enter your user name and password to access the CCTV system's cameras.
