Earning virtual medals gives people an incentive to continue playing a game.

Newgrounds, or NG, is a site where users can create and submit flash games and movies. In 2007, Application Programming Interface, or API, was introduced to enable people to earn money from the content that they submit to Newgrounds regardless of where the content is viewed. Flash submissions can also win weekly user-voted awards. You can create medals for your Newgrounds game that users can win as they earn points playing your game. The medals are stored on the user's page, and help bring player back for repeat gameplay.

Instructions

    • 1

      Log in to your NG account. Go to the API settings page for the game you wish to add medals.

    • 2

      Click on "Medals." Choose the medals that you would like to add to your game. You can add up to 500 points worth of medals for each game you have on the site.

    • 3

      Send a message to Tom with a link to the game in the testing area to get your medals approved. The medals must be approved by an administrator before they will show up on the site.

      Unlock medals using the API unlock function: "import com.newgrounds.*;
      API.unlockMedal("Your Medal Name");" The medal will be unlocked and appear on the player's page when the player is logged in.
