How to Add Perfume to Unscented Lotions

Add perfume to your unscented sunscreen for a fragrance boost.

Just because you don't enjoy the overwhelmingly sweet scent of commercially perfumed lotions doesn't mean you have to endure bland, unscented moisturizing cremes. Sensitive skin, allergies and odor sensitivity are a few reasons why purchasing scented lotions from a store is unappealing. Unlike a store-bought scented lotion, adding your favorite perfume to a bottle of unscented lotion lets you control the fragrance intensity. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the unscented lotion into a glass bowl and spread the contents evenly across the bottom to expedite the heating process.

    • 2

Place the bowl of lotion in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds. Remove the bowl before the heat causes bubbling in the lotion. The fluid consistency of warm lotion blends more effectively with scented perfume than cool lotion.

    • 3

Squeeze three drops of Eau de Parfume into the bowl of heated lotion using your eyedropper. Whisk the two ingredients vigorously for 10 seconds. Prevent the scent from fading prematurely by using only Eau de Parfume, not eau de toilet, for your fragrance.

    • 4

Smell the lotion after 10 seconds of whisking and add another drop if necessary. Add additional drops one at a time to avoid creating an excessive fragrance. Mix each additional drop for three to five seconds before adding another.

    • 5

Pour the scented lotion back into its original bottle and tighten the lid. Shake the container every three minutes until the lotion cools to keep the Eau de Parfume from settling in one spot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose a lotion that contains solid moisturizers, such as glycerin or bees wax. Eau de Parfume oil mixes better with melted solids than a lotion with a high water content.

  • Make three small bottles of scented lotion, each containing different brands of unscented cream. This sample allows you to determine which type of cream blends best with your favorite Eau de Parfume.
