Soft styles can be enhanced with the addition of hemp.

If you want to add a bit of boho-inspired panache to your look, consider braiding a strand of hemp into your hair. This effect can be accomplished with many plait styles, from a small braid on one side of your head to a full-head French braid. This method is also ideal for those who want to update their style without committing to a weave or plaited extensions. When you want to remove the hemp from your hair, this style requires only that you undo the braid. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Brush through your hair to release all the tangles. Tangles and snags will slow the plaiting process and leave the hair looking rough in the braid when you finish.

    • 2

Section the hair to be braided into three equal portions and place the center of the hemp strand over the top. The hemp strand should be as long as your hair's full length when the strand is folded in two, or slightly longer. It can always be trimmed when the braid is complete.

    • 3

Hold the hemp strand so the two ends rest against the two outer strands of the hair to be braided. Only the middle strand should be left untouched. If you find that the hemp has trouble staying in place while you are setting up the braid, secure it with a bobby pin. This will be easy to remove after the style is complete.

    • 4

Braid the three strands together as normal, weaving the outer strands over the middle strand. Hold onto the hemp strand with its original strands of hair to keep its presence in the weave consistent and symmetrical. Ensure that you keep equal tension on all three strands as you braid, as this will prevent kinks in the braid's structure.

Twist a clear hair elastic around the end of the braid when you finish. If you want, you can add a second, shorter strand of hemp to the end to give it a rope-like finish. Secure it in place by tucking the ends into the clear elastic and cut away the excess.
