How to Convert from Google Maps to Garmin MapSource

The Garmin Communicator plug-in allows you to convert maps from Google Maps to files compatible with the MapSource. The MapSource software is used to manage your Garmin maps, tracks and point-of-interest files. It is also the application used to sync map data to your Garmin GPS device.

      Launch a Web browser and open the Garmin Communicator installation page. The plug-in is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

      Click "Download" to download and install the plug-in. Restart your browser once installation is complete.

      Open Google Maps. Enter a location in the search box and press Enter, or click "Directions" to find directions between multiple locations.

      Click the "Send" button in the top right corner. Click "GPS" in the left sidebar.

      Enter a title for your map, select "Garmin" from the "Brand" drop-down menu and click "Send." This will transfer the map data to MapSource. Sync the map to your Garmin GPS device.
