How to Make a Rustic Vine Wedding Arch

How to Make a Rustic Vine Wedding Arch thumbnail
Frame yourselves with vines on your wedding day.

A simple arch acts as an ideal focal point for wedding ceremonies. It works equally well at both outdoor locations and nonreligious indoor venues. If you are having a rustic-style wedding, consider making your own ivy-covered wedding arch. This will add some personality to your decor, allowing you to style it just as you choose. Not only do arches give a lovely frame for your ceremony, but they also work well to display the two of you while you have your photos taken.

Things You'll Need

  • 8 to 12 stems of 7-foot curly willow branches
  • 2 planters
  • Damp sand

Instructions

    • 1

Divide your willow branches into two equal stacks so that you have an equal number of branches for each half of the arch.

    • 2

Fill the planters with sand. Do not pack the sand down tightly. Push the ends of one of the stacks of willow branches into one of the planters and repeat the process with the second stack.

    • 3

Press the sand tightly around the willow branches to help keep them in place. Add more sand as needed until the sand is nearly up to the tops of the planters.

    • 4

Cover the top of the sand with Spanish moss. Make sure that the moss is between the branches and around the planter's edge.

    • 5

Bend the tops of the two bunches of willow branches together and wire them together with floral wire to create an arch. Spread the two planters away from one another to widen the arch as much as you can. Willow branches are fairly flexible, making it easy for them to bend while you work.

    • 6

Wrap the willow branches with vines. If you intend to do this more than one day before your wedding, use silk vines to complete the process. Use floral wire to secure the vines to the arch every 10 inches to ensure that the strand stays secure.
