How to Troubleshoot the PVR-150 IVTV thumbnail
The PVR-150 provides a PC with TV functionality.

The PVR-150 from Hauppauge is a high-definition, digital/analog video and audio tuner designed for installation in a PC. It is a complex product that requires precise configuration to work correctly, lest you encounter poor image quality, jerky playback, blurry visuals or limited television reception. Most of these issues can easily be resolved by merely adjusting some settings. Keep in mind that, in a worst case scenario, you may need to send in your unit for service.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust the color mode to 16-bit or 24-bit if you encounter poor image quality while running the PVR-150 in 256-color mode. Perform this operation by right clicking on your desktop, opening the "Properties" menu, clicking the "Settings" tab and selecting "16 bit" or "24 bit" from the "Color Quality" drop-down list.

Enable DMA for your hard disk drive if you experience a "jerky" effect while watching live television or playing back a video. Accomplish this by right clicking on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, opening the "Properties" menu, selecting the "Device Manager" tab, double clicking on "Disk Drives," selecting "GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE," opening the "Properties" window, selecting "Settings" and clicking the box next to "DMA."

    • 3

Modify the PVR-150 IVTV's overlay settings if you encounter blurry images. Open your "Start" menu, scroll to the "Programs" sub-menu, open the "Hauppauge WinTV" sub-menu and click on "Primary." Click the box next to the "Allow Overlay" option. If this option has already been set, then try clicking the box next to the "Force Primary" option.

    • 4

Try rescanning for channels by using the "CABLE HRC" format if you are unable to detect any channels. Start WinTV, click "Yes" to scan for channels and, in the "Tuner Scanning Setup" window, select the "CABLE (HRC)" option in the "Broadcast/Cable" drop-down menu.
