How to Run Skype on Wine
Wine is a program that enables Ubuntu Linux to run Windows software. Wine translates code, or programming instructions, from Windows applications into code that Ubuntu Linux can understand. You can use Wine to install and run Skype for Windows on an Ubuntu machine. While Skype for Linux is available on the official Skype website, the program is several revisions behind Skype for Windows -- Skype 2.2 beta is available for Linux, but Windows users already have Skype 5.5, as of the time of publication. To run Skype in Wine, install the program to the computer, and then run the application from the "Wine" sub-menu on the task bar.
