How to Make a Toiletry Basket
A gift basket is always a good gift idea. It’s inexpensive and easy to put together, and the endless options for what to put inside make it a very versatile gift. For example, put together a beachy basket with a beach towel, flip-flops, and an inflatable raft, or a candy basket full of sweet treats. Another creative option is toiletries. A toiletry basket is a welcome way to make a gift of these useful items.

1
Use color to make your toiletry basket. For example, if the recipient’s favorite color is blue, purchase carved soaps, a soap container, a travel sized toothbrush, a toothbrush cap or holder and disposable razors that are blue, and also several shapes and styles of bottles and containers of lotions that come in blue bottles or have blue labels or blue lids. Place shredded filler in the bottom of a basket, add toiletries, wrap everything in blue cellophane and tie closed with blue ribbon.

Use a scent as the toiletry basket theme. Go with a fruity fragrance such as vanilla, strawberry, bananas, kiwi pumpkin or pineapple. Or avail yourself of any random smell that the recipient likes: eucalyptus, spring rain, gingerbread, ocean breeze, cinnamon, magnolia, spearmint or chocolate. Stock the basket with such toiletries as bar soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, body wash, sunscreen and shaving gel that are scented with the specific smell you’re looking for.

Make a gag gift toiletry basket. This is a good idea for a friend with a sense of humor, or perhaps for a white elephant gift exchange at work or church. It’s also a good way to get rid of excess toiletry items you’ve accumulated on business trips or vacations or ones that are just taking up too much space in bathroom drawers and cupboards. Fill the basket with them; then add a humorous tag: “To Harold. Because you stink. Love, Dave.” or “Cleanliness is next to godliness!”

Put together an alliterative toiletry basket. Tie an “L is for Lauren” tag onto a basket stocked with lavender lotion, lime shaving gel, lilac hand soap, lemon-scented shampoo. Or, get a bit more whimsical: “L is for Lauren! Enjoy this lovely carved soap, luxurious shampoo, ladylike deodorant, lively lotion and lustrous body wash. From Aunt Jane and Aunt Meg.” Or find a brand name of toiletries that starts with the first letter of the recipient’s name to fill the basket with.
